Victorian Skeptics

Get Involved

How can I get involved with the Australian Skeptics?

The Australian Skeptics is a public organisation - it is not a club with members that pay to join, rather you can get involved in events and activities organised by the state based committies. Anyone can join in!

"THE SKEPTIC"

http://www.keypoint.com.au/~skeptics/skepbits/theskeptic.jpg Most people who consider themselves to be "members" of the Australian Skeptics subscribe to the quarterly magazine "The Skeptic". It is a journal of "fact and opinion". Interesting articles from differing viewpoints are welcome and may be published, but the editor's decision is final. For more information about "The Skeptic" visit http://www.skeptics.com.au/journal/index.html

VIC SKEPTICS NEWS

The Victorian (Melbourne) branch runs regular activities ranging from casual meet-ups to public talks by interesting speakers. Occasionally we have other special events such as our popular stand at the annual Great Australian Science Show. If you have email, you can place yourself on a list to be notified of upcoming events. If this is what you wish, send a blank email to 'vic_skeptics_news-subscribe@yahoogroups.com' . This is a deliberately "low traffic" email list. You'll only receive about one message a month from it, and only the list owners can send out such messages.

WEB SITE / CALENDAR

As an alternative to joining the email list, you can keep track of upcoming Victorian Skeptics events by visiting this very website. Of special interest is our events Calendar. Please note that we don't plan many events far in advance so it's worth revisting the calendar every so often to see what new events have popped up.

Other states organise events as well. (See http://www.skeptics.com.au/events/events.htm )

QSKEPTICS

If you're keen on a bit of Skeptical discussion, you might like to join the QSkeptics email mailing list. On this list active Skeptics from all around Australia come together to chat, discuss and debate a myriad of issues. Anything and everything is discussed ... and argued about! To join, send a blank email to 'qskeptics-subscribe@yahoogroups.com'

SETI@HOME TEAM

Members of the Australian Skeptics intrigued by the notion of life existing elsewhere in the universe have joined the international SETI @ Home project by running a very special screensaver that helps process radio telescope data.

Obviously there are many international Skeptical magazines, mailing lists etc that you can also choose to get involved with. Here are a few: http://www.skeptics.com.au/links/links.htm

We look forward to meeting you :)
