SCHEDULE OF EVENTS 2003/ 2004

May The 2003 Annual General Meeting of the Society was held at the Devonport Public Library on May 9. A discussion was held on visits and Field Trips and a Spring Workshop to be held at the home of Club Members, David and Catherine. Members should watch out for the dates of these events as they will certainly be well worth while. Check your supply of pots, trees and tools. 
June Heavy pruning and wiring of Pinus densiflora Bonsai may be done this month, until the end of July. Winter needle pulling on Pinus thunbergii 
July Hard pruning of many trees may be carried out now, e.g. Cotoneaster, Citrus, Pyracantha, Gardenia, Crepe Myrtle, Chinese Liquidamber, Pomegranate
August  Repotting should be well under way this month. Don't forget the Spring Workshop at the home of David and Catherine, on Sunday August 24!
September  Heavy fertilizing of Crepe Myrtle and Wisteria should be carried out this month, the Wisteria after flowers have "set" , using Blood and Bone and/or Aquasol. Trees not freshly repotted can be fertilized with a High Nitrogen fertilizer. At this Workshop Pinus densiflora and Pinus thunbergii may be repotted, before the new candles develop.
October Workshop will cover repotting conifers, Chinese Elms, Gardenias and Azaleas, Cotoneasters and Pyracanthus, as  well as pruning and shaping of Native trees ready for repotting late November or December.
November This is a time for repotting Cotoneasters and Natives, and deciduous trees not repotted earlier, as well as pruning of Conifers.
December Workshop will include Summer candle removal on Pinus thunbergii and Pinus densiflora, and pruning of shoots of Pinus parviflora .
January Workshop will include pruning deciduous trees
February Workshop to discuss reduction of fertilizing, pinching buds of conifers and pruning "sacrifice" branches of the Crab Apple
March Workshop to include a discussion on Fertilizing Wisteria and Fruiting trees. This Workshop is a good time to begin Winter Needle Pulling on Pinus thunbergii
April Workshop will include needle pruning of Pinus Thunbergii and arrangements for re-potting Winter flowering deciduous trees
