The Foundation Stone of St Johns Anglican Church corner of Newton and Fenton Street was laid on the 27th February 1906, 
by the Right Rev Dr. Edward Mercer Bishop of Tasmania.
On the 30th September 1906 the Church was formally opened and on the 13th January 1907 the Church was dedicated to St. John the Evangelist.
The Extension to the Church was dedicated on 10th August 1957.
The Consecration of the Church was held on the 27th February 1966, sixty years after the foundation stone was laid.
