A LITTLE BACKGROUND
A growth spurt showing interest in BINGO occurred around 1960 after
gambling became legal in members' clubs.
These Multi-National Clubs held large BINGO Sessions.
By 1999 the number of licensed clubs dwindled, although 600 - 700 clubs
still combine to play the National Game for a single prize, with the
possibility of a winner receiving thousands of pounds per game.
Clubs run by Independent Owners have always done well and are
continuing to do so.
Prizes do not match the wins available at the big clubs, but neither do
the stakes.
There will always be a place for the smaller groups and also for
charitable games.
The old Bingo Halls have been given a new lease of life with the younger
ages attending, especially the women, who look upon it as an outing
and a chance to relax and have fun. They make new friends and if
they win a game it puts the "Icing on the Cake'
TRADITIONAL BINGO
Traditional bingo is played in person in a large or small hall.
A night of BINGO consists of many BINGO games continuously.
Cards are as the graphic above with 1 - 75 numbers called.
In the 60's & 70's the numbers were printed on a ball which was spun
in a bin, the Caller drew a ball and announced the number.
Today most halls have computerised draws and the screens to show
the number plus the Caller will also call the number.
A player has to have five numbers in a row, column or diagonal to make
a BINGO.
When a player achieves a required line he/she must call House or Here
to stop the game before the next number is called.
The last number called must be on the winning card, so remember you
can never call too loudly to claim your win, it's your money,
so be sure the caller hears you.
