"My Memories"

Midi Playing - Gentle

Memories flit in and out of your mind taking you
by surprise so often.

I have found myself having these moments so many
times lately that I decided to record them here :-)

This will be an ongoing page of my varied and some
times "weird" flashbacks.

Where will I start? - the beginning I guess :-)

"Life Style"

My grandchildren loved stories about how it was in
the "ancient" days

* When we had no refrigeration - just ice boxes - and
how we chased after the iceman's horse drawn
cart - to pick up pieces of iee to suck!

*  When the butcher and the grocer rode a push bike
to call at homes to get their weekly order!

*  When the chinaman called in to sell his vegetables,
and how we would call him names.

I remember once he waved his large knife at me, I
was so scared I hid under the house for such
a long time.

*  And how we would take a billy to the dairy for milk,
and then whirl it around in the air, hoping we
would not spill any :-)

* Ooh! And when we went to the bakers for a fresh
loaf of bread, sneakily pulling lumps of
the end!

I wonder now - just how much of this my mother
knew we were doing :-)

 "Brothers and Sisters"

My Brother And I ...

Just recently I recalled a family occasion way back
30 + years ago.
While visiting my family on the mainland we were
all gathering in cars to go back to home base.

My older brother insisted that I be the one he would
escort - and that he only wanted me with him.

Puzzled but willing - I "obeyed" him - we no sooner
got moving when he put on a tape to play.
Oh what joy.
It was band music, playing lovely and loud :-)

He said he had got the tape especially for me to hear,
because I love martial music so much.

We drove round and round until we had heard every
track more than once, what a fantastic brother, it
is one of the greatest memories I have :-)

PS - The family were getting concerned about
our non-appearance LOL

My Sister And I ...

On the day WW2 Peace was declared I was 17 and
my sister about 12 years old.

We decided to celebrate at the movies - I went to buy
the tickets about 6pm - on the way home I was
followed by a young man who had been
celebrating rather too well!

He grabbed me - trying to kiss me - I was so scared,
I ran screaming into the house.
On hearing what had happened my sister raced out
the door, saying "I will fix him"

I was so shaken up I didn't really want to go out in
the evening, but my sister said " I wont let
anything happen to you."

NB: I sure was a timid person in those days LOL

"Raising Children"

Back in the 1960's, my 4 year old son had to go
into hospital .

He had to have an operation on both eyes.
A very scary thing for one so young.

To prepare him for this I had taken him to see the
Sister of the ward - a box of
chocolates for her - clasped firmly in his hands.

She showed him the cot he would be sleeping in, and
the bed next to it for me to stay with him.
I was also needed to make sure he did not touch
his eyes.
Very scary for me too.

At home I had given him a little case for his pyjamas
and other things.

Because his nature was such that too much excitement
would delay his chances of having an operation, we
did not talk of it again.

His behaviour meanwhile was very naughty; with me
not knowing really what was causing it.

All became clear the evening I nervously said ...
" We must pack your little case tonight and go to
the hospital in the morning"

Imagine my surprise when his behaviour was
angelic after that!

He thought we had forgotten about it :-)

No prizes for guessing who felt a fool - Duh!
