BRUNY ISLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY
ANNUAL REPORT.  2008 - 2009

A "steady as we go" year, with no major events, a consistent volunteer participant level, and Variety Bay Historic site working bee days, with the Open day well attended.  An appreciative (of the achievements to date) Lions Group toured the site, and took the hat around to donate $100.

Speaking of finance, the interest rate on our small investment went from 6.5% down to 5% during the year - one tends to forget how the downturn reaches into every corner in some way.  Thankfully, this has not been reflected in the Donation Box contributions.  They, together with subscriptions, book sales and calendar commission, have kept the Society ticking over, covering office-type maintenance etc. during the year.

The October native orchid walks proved very popular.  As many requests have been received, this will be repeated in the Spring - see Activities List on separate page.

A wide range of memorabilia has been added to the History Collection during the year:
· A book "Jack Thwaites, Pioneer Tasmanian" by Simon Kleinig, together with a collection of photographs and negatives relating to Jack's connection with Bruny Island in the 1920's and 30's while on
