Return via the same route, stopping for a light breakfast on the way.

We’ll ride down the Sandridge Trail to Beacon Cove then follow the Bayside Path south to Ricketts Point, with a coffee stop along the way. BYO lunch to eat at Ricketts Point or beyond. Between Ricketts Point and Mordialloc there’s a short section on road but most of the way is on beachside path. At Mordialloc we turn inland and follow the path through the Edithvale wetlands to Carrum. We ride, mainly off-road, through Patterson Lakes then continue through the wetlands for a few more km. The last stretch from Seaford to Frankston is mainly on quiet streets. We’ll catch the train from Frankston back to Flinders Street Station. There are plenty of opportunities to bail out on this ride as we pass many stations. If the weather is hot bring your bathers and we may shorten the ride and stop for a swim.
Meet 9.15am, Southbank near the arched footbridge.

On a dawn walk, learn about the historic houses of East Melbourne and Richmond and walk in the shaded Fitzroy gardens and possibly the Botanic gardens. East Melbourne has some gracious homes of historical significance with some notable early owners while Richmond has some charming cottages hidden in the back streets.
Note 6am start from corner of Powlett St and Victoria Parade East Melbourne.
There is plenty of free unrestricted parking in the centre of Victoria Parade on a Sunday.

Then return via Dights Falls and Deep Rock back to Studley Park.

Built in the 1920’s, the Rubicon Hydro-electric scheme was one of the first power generation projects of the old SEC. Still operating, it now provides only a minute part of Victoria’s electricity. The walk is along the aqueducts, but there is a steep descent along the tail race.

The walk follows the spectacular Little River Gorge, with some rock hopping involved. There are a number of short steep up and down sections to climb in and out of the gorge (250m). This is peregrine falcon habitat, so bring binoculars.

This will be a hard walk due to an ascent or decent (depending on direction of travel) of over 1000m. Walk combines the dry forests of Mt Little Joe with the wet rain forests of Mt Donna Buang. Mt Donna Buang offers panoramic views over Melbourne, the Yarra Valley, Dandenong and Cathedral Ranges, Mount Baw Baw and the Alps. Car Shuffle required.

A short, but challenging walk and very beautiful walk. 550m of climbing and corresponding descent. 5-6 hours of actual walking. Interesting open forest with large expanses of granite slabs and cliffs, and plenty of view points. We will walk in anticlockwise direction. There are cascades and waterfulls at the beginning, then a steep climb to Mt Sugarloaf. On the descent we will see the spectacular cave of Cave Hill. Final few kilometres are flat. The park is not heavily walked. Track markers are often widely spaced. Tracks are often covered in leaf litter and might be slippery, so special care needs to be taken on steep sections. Some track junctions can be difficult to see. Poles recommended. Must carry water. Dinner at the pub at Beaufort (21km from the walk start/finish) on the way home.

In conjunction with Parks Victoria Help to clean up a popular training area for bushwalkers at the Ferntree Gully National Park. Lots of small tracks to
cover. Those of you who are feeling energetic can scour the 1000 Steps circuit. 12.00 pm Barbeque lunch. Bring study boots, gardening gloves, comfortable clothing and jacket, sun-hat, water bottle and snacks and lunch to share. Please note that if it is a total Fire Ban the activity will be cancelled.

This is advance notice for Easter 4 night stay at Mitre Lodge Mt Buller Village with beautiful views over the valley. Easter is 5 days long in 2011 because of Anzac Day holiday on the Tuesday. Plenty of short or longer day walks. Cost to book whole lodge is $250 per night – sleeps approx. 35 people in different room configurations. Minimum number of people required is 10 so please advise expression of interest by end November 2010.

This is to complete the last 4 days of the Great Ocean Walk – from either Lake Aire or Castle Cove to Glenample. We will stay in cabins in the Port Campbell Caravan park for 4 nights. We will use our own cars for part shuttle, however will also use a professional shuttle service to minimise driving – there will be some small cost for this. All of this needs to be booked well in advance so I need an indication of interest asap please. Either phone or email me. It is possible to only come for 3 nights and still do most of the walk so also let me know if this is your preferred option.
