Max walkers 20 Walking distance: 10 - 16 km per stage Overdue Walks Procedure: No

This is to complete the last 4 days of the Great Ocean Walk – from Aire River to Glenample. We will stay at the Port Campbell Youth Hostel for 4 nights. We will use our own cars for part shuttle, however will also use a professional shuttle service to minimise driving – there will be a cost of approx. $50 per person for this.
It is possible to only come for 3 nights and still do most of the walk so also let me know if this is your preferred option. Final bookings now being done so contact Carmel urgently.

The Larapinta Trail extends over 231 kilometres west of Alice Springs along the West MacDonnell Ranges. The marked trail alternatives between high, rock ridges that afford extensive views and easier walking over plains and creek beds along the base of the range. Generally, walking the whole trail takes about 20 days. My plan is to undertake only some sections of the trail covering about 10 days walking. Depending on the availability of support, there may be provision for some walkers to only need to carry a day pack for the entire trip – this is uncertain at this stage. Nevertheless, a strong level of fitness will be required by all walkers given the terrain and that camping out will be necessary for all nights on the trail.

This concept gives people able to get away for 4-7 days at a time the opportunity to visit some of the more hard to get at parts of SE Australia. Given the research, planning and trip logistics will often be too much for one person the organization will be a joint effort. Trips will be similar in format to the recent McMillans Track walk. Particularly suitable for seasoned older walkers, with some bush skills who find the pack carries too hard. Will consist of bush camping and supported daywalks to interesting spots. All we need is committed people prepared to share the load. Places - think of The Cobberas, The Wonnangatta Valley, The Bluff, Mt Clear, Mitta Mitta, The Dargo High Plains. The concept will be initiated by firstly getting volunteers then having a couple of meetings to develop trip plans. Please contact Jim ASAP to indicate committment.
