Starting from the car park at the end of the Punchbowl road, a wide and well-graded track follows the cliff top eastward to Kilcunda. Views across farmland and beach from Cape Woolami in the west to Cape Paterson in the east. Lunch at Killies Pub and return to Punchbowl by the same route.

A slight modification of last year’s walk, with the addition of an extra section (more climbing!). Starting and ending at Mortimer picnic ground, the walk is through thick forest with stringybark and banksia, damp gullies with tree ferns, past deep tannin coloured dams (perhaps with bunyips) and exposed granite outcrops. There are some steep ups and downs, but we will do it slowly, so suited for those easy medium walkers who want to stretch themselves, but not necessarily at the pace of the regular medium walkers.

At the southern end of the Brisbane Ranges, the Steiglitz area has a history of gold diggings and old towns (now mostly gone). This walk leaves the historic Court House and follows a track for a bit over 3km then descends steeply over a short distance into the bed of Sutherland Creek. The remainder of the day is spent criss-crossing the creek and walking along grassy creekside flats on the way back up the valley until a small waterfall blocks the way. A short uphill section back to the road back to the starting point..

A varied walk that caters for all emergencies (we start at a cemetery & pass a second one). We walk from the Kangaroo Ground cemetery along horse trails (rural landscapes), road reserves (very quiet unsealed bush roads), and lovely bush reserves to St. Andrews. Car shuffle.

Meet at Southbank near the arched footbridge at 9.15am. We’ll head downstream along Southbank, cross to Docklands then along Footscray Road to the Maribyrnong River. Then it’s upstream to Brimbank Park and on to the Keilor Pub where we’ll have lunch. We’ll then ride back around the top of Brimbank Park and west along the Western Ring Road path before moving onto the Kororoit Creek path and following this to Sunshine. We’ll catch a train back to Flinders Street Station. The ride is almost all on shared paths, some unsealed. There are a few steepish hills but none too long. If there’s work being done on the Sunshine line on the day of the ride another will be substituted and I’ll ring all those on the list with details.

Larapinta Trail which extends west of Alice Springs along the West MacDonnell Ranges. The marked trail alternates between high, rocky ridges that afford extensive views and some easier walking over plains and creek beds along the base of the range. Vehicle support will be used each day although there will be one overnight pack carry required. A strong level of fitness will be required by all walkers given the terrain. Allowance has been made for participants to miss some sections if they so wish. Each day’s walking is about 13 to 15 km, with one day of 29 km.

A short but challenging walk with a number of steep ascents and descents. Part of the walk follows the Great Dividing Trail. There is a descent of 300m over ½km from Razorback North Tk to the Lerderderg River, a climb of 300m over 2km out of the river, followed by another descent of over 200m over 1km only to climb back up again over 3km. There are 3 river crossings, so expect wet feet.

Walk starts and finishes at the Dargile Picnic Area. There are 280 metres of climbing. Given the short hours of daylight and relatively long distance from Melbourne, the pace of the walk will need to be mostly brisk. The Heathcote-Graytown National Park holds the largest remnant of box-ironbark woodland in Australia. Mt Ida is the highest peak in the area.

This base camp will be in the northern Grampians and is to be a bit of fun and nostalgia. The retro theme means we want you to dig out, borrow or steal old bushwalking gear and re-live the early days. Set up your old Paddy Pallin cotton tent, dig a hip-hole (only joking!), make a palliasse, put on the old ‘H’ frame pack, wear your old outfits and bring your damper recipe. Prizes for best retro gear and gourmet camp meals. Oh and we will have a good range of walks from Easy to Hard.

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Cranbourne, was first opened to the public in 1989. The Australian Garden celebrates the beauty and diversity of Australian Flora, landscapes and architecture in an innovative setting. There are several walking tracks that explore untouched heath lands, wetlands and woodlands. A group discount is available for the Australian Garden.

Conservation Activity. This year the planting weekend is the culminating activity of Bushwalking Victoria’s 75th anniversary celebrations. Join landholders, bushwalkers and other volunteers in a nationally significant project to plant wildlife corridors on properties in the Lurg Hills near Benalla. The sponsors provide dinner on Saturday night, followed by a bush dance or spotlighting; and a BBQ lunch on Sunday.

The Brisbane Ranges has great botanical diversity, and we should see orchids at this time of year

This is one of few walks on Mt Buffalo where you can pack carry. An area less visited but just as wonderful as the others. A steady walk along a management vehicle track, to climb up to Mt McLeod. Postponed in March, Tarra-Bulga National Park, nestled in the Strzelecki Ranges, was spared the ravages of recent bushfires and is home to mountain ash, messmate, blackwood, beautiful fern gullies, ancient myrtle beeches and cool temperate rainforests; the perfect backdrop for a number of walks, ranging from an easy 720 m Fern Gully Nature Walk, to a full day’s walk on Sunday. Rustic cabins at Fernholme, Tarra Valley Tourist Park have been booked, approximate cost $60; alternatively, camping facilities available. A picturesque walk in the Mt Worth State Park, on the western rim of the Strzelecki Ranges, on our homeward journey on Monday will complete our long weekend.

The 1800 metre plus Cobberas No 1 and 2,and Moscow Peak, Rams Horn, Tin Mine Falls, Cowombat Flat , nearby McKillops Bridge, Little River Gorge/Falls, Buchan Caves, Snowy River NP beckon. So much to see- so little time.
